A few things about my life
that make me who I am…

My family is a blend of Southern roots from Georgia on my mother’s side and Guyanese roots on my father’s side. My maternal grand parents (Meemaw and PopPop) live in Maryland. I love visiting them during school breaks and celebrating holidays together. Some of my favorite experiences are learning how to cook traditional southern foods like fried chicken with Meemaw or learning how to play checkers from PopPop.

My paternal grandfather lives in Pennsylvania. He has been teaching me about our Guyanese family dating back to the 1800's and created a book for me with photos and information about our history . He also makes really good curry stew and roti!

I’m proud of my family’s cultural background. My heritage has given me confidence in who I am and what I can become.

My Life in Motion…

A Curious Kid

My parents introduced reading to me at 4 months old. By 9 months old I was reading flash cards and by 3 years old I was reading books for 2nd & 3rd graders. Curious George was always a favorite because I was always curious and inquisitive just like him. Today, I’m still that curious kid who loves to read a good book any chance I get.

My first public speaking appearance at 3 yrs old. 😃

This is a video of me at 3 years old presenting a report at school on Guyana where my father’s parents grew up. I asked my teachers if I could do a report when I saw the older kids giving presentations for student led projects. It was the first time a pre-schooler had asked to lead a class! My mom helped me write the report and practice before I presented. My parents taught me that public speaking is an important skill for success so I’m glad that I learned from an early age to be confident with using my voice in public or group settings.

My day as a flying trapeze artist!

I love to try new things. This is me at summer camp 2 years ago where I got to learn how to be a flying trapeze artist. Scary but I was so proud that I had the courage to do it!

Girls skateboard too!

Skateboarding is one of my favorite things to do. My cousin August is also learning so it’s fun that we can do this activity together. Skateboarding also made it easier for me to learn Snowboarding!

Pianist in the making!

My dad recently started teaching me how to play the piano. I really liked it and now I am excited to be taking formal piano lessons for the first time at my new school.

Even though I’ve just started learning, the piano has already taught me patience and musical rhythm. And has become a new passion of mine!

Mama Foundation for the Arts Holiday Concert

This year I was excited to move up to the Advanced singing group for Mama Foundation for the arts. The first time I wanted to audition, I got scared and didn’t go through with it. I’m so glad I found the courage the next time. I look forward to singing class every Saturday and feel proud when I’m performing with my Mama Foundation community.
